Licensing

PointSav distributes pre-compiled binaries under four license tiers, one per product family. All are one-time purchases in native USDC on the Polygon network — there is no subscription, and no recurring charge for continued use of a binary you have already purchased. Every product is priced at $0 during the current BETA period, regardless of which tier applies — tier governs the rights you hold, not what's charged today.

Proprietary

This tier applies to os-orchestration and its app-orchestration-* surfaces — permanently, no source grant. It's PointSav's stated commercial moat: a solo Totebox deployment is free forever, and aggregation or resale requires a separate commercial agreement.

FSL-1.1-ALv2

The Functional Source License, version 1.1, with an Apache-2.0 future grant. The source for every release is published immediately and readable by anyone — inspect it, audit it, build it yourself. What FSL restricts for two years from each release is competing use: standing up the software as a product or service that competes with what PointSav sells. Internal use, non-competing use, and modification for your own purposes are unrestricted from day one.

Two years after each specific release, that release automatically converts to Apache-2.0 — permanently, with no further action from PointSav required. Nothing is retroactively restricted: once a version converts, it stays converted, even if a later release's own two-year window is still open.

This is the current tier for products PointSav intends to move toward a more permissive license — the source dependencies that currently pull them into the AGPL tier below are still being removed; until that work lands, FSL is the accurate, real state of the code, not a placeholder.

On license keys. Products in this tier require a license key to download the official signed binary, for the same reason as the AGPL tier below — the key governs the build and its distribution, not your right to read or build the source, which FSL grants unconditionally from publication.

This tier covers the self-hosted distribution stack (os-privategit and the app-privategit-* surfaces — the same software this storefront runs on) and os-totebox, the self-hosted data archive appliance.

AGPL-3.0-or-later + PointSav Commercial (dual license)

Most of what PointSav ships is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 or later, with a commercial license available as an alternative — you choose which terms you operate under. The source is public, forkable, and buildable by anyone, at no cost, indefinitely. AGPL asks one thing in return: if you modify the software and run it as a network service other people reach, you must publish your modified source under the same terms. Running it unmodified, or modifying it for purely internal use, carries no such obligation.

The commercial license exists for the case where that obligation does not fit — embedding the code in a product you will not open-source, operating a modified version as a service for third parties without publishing your changes, or redistributing the binary under your own name. It replaces the AGPL copyleft term with a conventional grant and adds official signed builds and commercial redistribution rights. It changes what you owe; it does not change the code you receive.

On license keys. Most products in this tier require a license key to download the official signed binary. That key governs our build and its distribution, not the source: the AGPL grant stands on its own and is never conditional on holding one — you can always clone the repository and build the software yourself, at no cost. A key here is not a subscription either; it gates the download, not your continued use of a version you already hold.

This tier covers os-console, the self-hosted pipeline terminal for Totebox Orchestration, the tool-* family of developer tools for accounting, construction, payroll, and payment workflows (including the Polygon USDC payment watcher this site's own checkout runs on), and the shared service-* and system-* crates those products are built from.

Apache-2.0

Apache-2.0, unconditionally. Everything in this tier is free — not free during a BETA period, not free until a version bump. Fork it, modify it, embed it in a commercial product, redistribute it with or without your changes, at no cost. Attribution and the license text are the only conditions, and the Apache-2.0 patent grant travels with the code. A published Apache-2.0 release cannot be withdrawn: the version you hold stays Apache-2.0 permanently.

No purchase is required — a license key is still issued. Claiming a product in this tier issues a real, signed key immediately and at no cost: no payment details, no account beyond the claim itself. Every binary we distribute, free or paid, travels through the same signing and verification pipeline, and the key is how a download proves what it is. It gates nothing you can't also get by building from source.

This tier covers os-mediakit and the app-mediakit-* family, the self-hosted wiki engine and its companion applications; the moonshot-* crates — PointSav's foundational and experimental work across the kernel, hypervisor, database, network, and protocol layers; the PointSav design system; and the BIM component library.

What a purchase includes

A purchase is a one-time transaction for the version you buy. There are no subscriptions and no ongoing service commitment — you download the binary, and it is yours to run indefinitely. A license's update-channel window has an expiry date that governs whether that specific purchase still qualifies for newer version downloads; it never blocks or revokes your ability to keep running a version you have already downloaded. Purchasing a later version, when you want one, is a separate transaction at the same tier price.

All licensed source code referenced above is published and version-controlled at github.com/pointsav/pointsav-monorepo, satisfying network-service source-availability obligations for any AGPL-licensed components in this stack.

Tax

PointSav Digital Systems currently operates below the CAD 30,000 GST small-supplier threshold and does not collect GST, HST, or any other sales tax on purchases made through this site.
